Today, for the "Women's History Month" project, we are celebrating this beautiful, strong and resilient young woman

Meet Shakira Mora, 37, wife, mother of a handsome boy and owner of a contagious smile

Strong women raise strong women. This lovely Costa Rican native is testament to that. Moving to the USA at the age of nine, life was not easy for her in this, The Land of Possibility.

An abusive stepfather, language barriers, and financial struggles were hardships she worked tirelessly to overcome. Tough times did not change her smile. “They were obstacles,” she’ll tell you, “chances to become stronger and persevere. Growing experiences that made me a better person.”

She found solace in her mom, who she adored and will forever admire. “My mom taught me to be strong. Taught me to survive. Taught me to fight for what I want. But most importantly, taught me kindness and taught me grace. I would not be who I am today, had I not had my mom to show me that you cannot always change the hand you’ve been dealt, but you can change the outcome. Misfortunes are not meant to consume you, they are there to promote growth.”

Nine years ago, Shakira lost her mom and her brother. Twenty days separated their demise. Life has thrown some hard punches, but nothing will keep this girl down. “Losing my mom and brother was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced, but we have to trust in God’s timing. My brother was taken so my mom could go in peace. God had already blessed us letting us keep him well beyond his life expectancy. At 18yo, he had shocked doctors with his will to live. He was sick and this was God’s mercy. Same with my mom.”

Shakira’s outlook on life is inspiring. She will not let anything dull her light. In fact, she protects it, and her circle, above everything else. She knows what it’s like to struggle, so she will give the shirt off her back to help others.

She will be the 1st to tell you, she is “not a victim. I am proof that you can make life what you want life to be. You get back what you put in.”

Shakira has a successful career in consumer lending, is blessed with a vivacious bundle of energy little boy, and the most loving of husbands. She is warm, she is kind, and she is strong. She loves deeply. She’s generous and nurturing. She takes care of people. She’s an amazing friend.

If you ever find yourself without a smile, do not worry, she will gladly give you one of hers. She’ll probably even throw in a cookie (she loves with food). That is the kind of person she is.
