Elizabeth Muana I Women's History Month

Today for the Women's History Month project we are celebrating this amazing young woman

Meet Elizabeth Muana, 19, daughter, big sister, College student and fashion model.

Elizabeth is half Ugandan and half Sierra Leonean. She partially grew up in Kampala and Portland. She is the first born in a family of three girls. She has two sisters aged 15 and 8 years old. Because her parents are from two different countries, she grew up speaking five languages fluently.

Elizabeth currently goes to the University of Southern Maine on a full scholarship and she is majoring in Human Biology with a minor in Actuary Science. While growing up, her parents encouraged her to study for at least two hours everyday and she calculated math numbers everyday of her life including weekends. "Two numbers of math a day so that I never forget what I was being taught in school." Says Elizabeth. She also had a strong love for biology and science and so it led her to her current major.

Just like any other human, she has been through some hard times in her life such as loss of a loved one, not getting the grades she wanted, feeling like she is not doing enough and a lot of school stress from endless assignments and projects. "I am a strong Christian and so I always pray for better days and it works. There’s a special kind of peace and fulfillment that comes after you pray and bring forth your burdens to God." Says Elizabeth with a beautiful smile stamped in her face.

For now, her biggest life achievement will be graduating from college debt free. "A lot of people don’t get to graduate debt free and I feel so lucky and fortunate that I received a full scholarship for all four years as long as I keep my gpa above a 3.0." Says Elizabeth

Elizabeth is very passionate when it comes to children. She loves children. She hopes to go to Medical school and become a pediatrician so she can help a lot of children feel better when sick. She also hopes to open up an orphanage to help the less fortunate one day.

Elizabeth values education the most in life because it’s one thing that you work hard for and can never be taken away from you. "My mum always tells me 'whatever you have can be taken away from you including your family and friends, but your degree will always be yours and that’s permanent'." Says Elizabeth

Advice to another women:

"My advice to other women is to find your purpose in this world, find something your passionate about, create a goal and work hard towards that goal. Always be open to learning and trying new things because you never know where it’ll lead you. Also, be positive and never stop believing."

Another one of Elizabeth's favorite quote is:

“it’s hard until you know it."

Everything in life seems so difficult until you start doing it and realize it was only difficult because you didn’t know it.

Get out of your comfort zone and see how your life will change.
